Lichen Katydid

This remarkable Katydid has evolved over milliones of years to resemble the lichens found on trees in the Cloud Florests of Monteverde, Costa Rica. It is about 5 cm long, exactly matches the lichen in color and has black protrusions on the legs to mimic the shadows. Once in place on it’s lichen, it is impossible to see unless it moves.

This especific photo was taken by Elberth Fuentes at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in one of his regular tours. It is important to make your reservations in advance or contact us if you have questions or comments about the area.
